From May 17 to June 6, Reportage Online and Radio Atticus conducted a three-week investigation, and found that over 60 restaurants and cafes across Sydney, Canberra and Perth are breaking the law.

The investigation was published on Reportage and broadcast on 2ser radio.

On June 12, 2010, the investigation was also published in The Sydney Morning Herald, SMH online and Brisbane Times.

Israel faces backlash from Australia

Thousands of Australians gathered in capital cities last night to protest against the Israeli attack on a flotilla of boats on its way to Gaza on Monday.

Israel forces and pro-Palestinians clashed violently on the leading Turkish vessel killing at least 10 civilians and injuring around thirty more.

Two Sydney Morning Herald journalists, Paul McGeough and photographer Kate Geraghty are still being detained by Israeli authorities.

Chinese New Year is one of the most important celebrations in chinese culture. The ancient people believe that on the eve of the new year, an evil spirit called naan would come out and kill all the people sleeping in their beds. To scare off the spirit, people would parade the colour red through the streets, hang lanterns, and create loud noises to welcome in the new year. One tradition is the lion dance.

The New South Wales government, Australia, is considering amendments to the National Parks and Wildlife Act that will make it easier for developers and tourism operators to use parks land. Opponents to the changes say the amendments will lead to the commercialisation of New South Wales’ wilderness areas. Proponents argue that increased tourism will bring conservation dollars to help manage the parks. Rebecca Leaver, Amanda Hoh, and Nick Evershed reporting.
